Our story behind the Venga Boys
Autumn 2018 at Base Camp Arlberg, Austria.
Here in Austria we are in the midst of a huge political scandal! The Vice-Chancellor was caught in a honey trap in Ibiza and currently the number 1 song being played and downloaded in Austria is “Going to Ibiza” by the Venga Boys.
This could not have come at a more apparent time, since the video of our Soča Valley, Slovenia Class 3-4 Kayaking Trip by Gina comes with the music from the Venga Boys….
Summer 2018 at our home base in the Arlberg
We had a golden Autumn with plenty of sunny days. The sky was a deep blue and certain trees full in their colourful best. Our 2019 dates have been published and certain courses are starting to fill up.
The third Spring of 2018
And what a Summer it was! The weather was unbelievable, long hot sunny days with very little rain! While the higher tributaries were drying up, the Sanna was at a fantastic level giving us plenty of places to teach on, making some sweet moves and working on creeking techniques. The River Inn was just a dream to kayak with BIG waves, bouncy rapids and pretty much the river to ourselves made for some memorable days kayaking around our Home Base in the Arlberg Region.
Kayaking in the stunning Soča Valley in Slovenia
Our third Spring of the year was back home at our base in the Arlberg, Austria. The snow was melting fast, the sun was out and the nature in the valley was coming to life! We had a good base of snow from the Winter and it was now feeding the rivers. The Rosanna had great levels and the Spring melt on the Sanna saw us with a very unusual 3 weeks of constant high water!
The year of 4 springs: the Indian Himalayas
Our second Spring kayaking season of 2018 found us in the stunning Soča Valley in Slovenia. We have been kayaking and coaching here since 2001 and it is a place we love to go back to. With emerald green water the surrounding snowcapped mountains provide a beautiful backdrop to what is one of Europe’s gems!
5 best places for kayaking in Europe
The snow had been good at home in St. Anton am Arlberg, Austria and I had skied some deep powder and explored a new area earning my turns ski touring into some amazing powder bowls with Jakub, Stocki and Claudia. However, India was calling and I was about to experience Holi, the Festival of Colour.
An Indian Summer
Just another advantage of our kayaking base in the west of Austria is the close proximity of some fantastic European kayaking destinations. We have kayaked and worked extensively in the following destinations and here are just a few reasons why we believe these are the among the best kayak holiday destinations in Europe.
Our final trip of 2017 was with Tom on the Alaknanda and Ganges River. It was mid-November and the mornings and evenings were getting chilly up in Shivanandi on the banks of the Alaknanda River. However, the days were sunny and the whitewater was still good!
Kumaon Kayak Road Trip
We have been working on and catching up with some video footage taken on our trips to Chile in 2016 and 2017. Check out our video footage...
Kali River and the Ganges
After a few days of resting and chilling out in Rishikesh we decided on returning to the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. On our radar were a couple of rivers that we saw when driving over to the River Kali. So with Puran’s jeep loaded, Ute, Stanzin and myself headed up into the mountains, over a pass and finally down to the town of Bageshwar.
Summer and Autumn 2017
After finishing the Paddle Expo with Peak UK we packed up the Kayak School and headed to India. Our first trip was with Geoffrey and Seraina from Switzerland and we were heading to the Kali River to spend 5 days kayaking.
Austria Spring & Early Summer 2017
The height of Summer gave us some fantastic weather with deep blue skies and long sunny days. Our courses were in full swing and it was great to be out on the river cooling down. We have an abundance of Classic Alpine rivers for every level of kayaker right by our home and base in the Arlberg Region of Austria.
Kayaking in Chile, part 3
We arrived back home after a successful Kayak Adventure Trip to the Indian Himalayas with snow falling on the pass and a temperature plunge in the valley. The good news was that the rivers were up and our first course was about to start in the Alps.
Winter in Arlberg Region, part 1
Will had an amazing time running some classic waterfalls around the Pucon area and a sweet day kayaking the Palguin from top to bottom!
We were now heading back up to Santiago with a very rainy day on the madness that is the Rio Laja and a few laps on the Upper Nuble.
Kayaking in Chile, part 2
It has been a strange Winter this season here in the Arlberg Region of Austria. Though we have a blanket of snow covering the mountains and even down to the valley it has been a season of very little snowfall so far!
While most kayakers head straight to the Futaleufu from Puerto Montt, we decided to check out the rivers along the way and we were not disappointed!
