Best Places to Eat in Pucon - Chile
Pucon has an array of restaurants, cafe’s and food stalls in the Summer and it can be quite daunting trying to work out where to go to eat good, wholesome and flavoursome food.
So here are some of our favourite places to eat in Pucon…
Patacon Sangucharia
Patacon Sangucharia is one of our favourite places to eat and hang out. The choice of sandwiches is impressive and they not only delicious with fresh ingredients but they are also pretty big. Service is always with a smile and the team are super helpful. We come with our guests there and it is easy for us to not only reserve a place but the team are very accommodating, giving us a great table with plenty of space for our food and drinks. Talking of drinks, they serve artisanal beer and have a vast selection of fresh fruit juices, the cocktails also come highly recommended. Fernando, the owner, always comes and says hello and likes to know what we have been up to and what the guests thought of the food. It is really old school and goes down a treat not just with the guest but also the Kayak School Arlberg team!
Madd Goat Cafe
The best coffee in town, by far! Madd Goat moved recently to a bigger place and have more room for people to sit, hang out and drink great coffee. For me, the quiche is the best food they serve and it varies from day to day depending on what vegetables are in season. The quiche comes with a tasty side salad and makes a great light lunch option especially if you eat a lot of meat in the evening!! We love spending time in Madd Goat, hanging out, making the use of the fast internet and catching up with friends. Scott and Olivia, the owners, are lovely people and you can really see how much time, effort and love they put into the business.
We are going to do a separate piece about Madd Goat as they are one of our core partners in Pucon.
Sundar
Sundar is a vegetarian restaurant just off the street. They have a set meal with a slight variation so that if you are gluten free you will get an option. The food is extremely tasty and you will be full if you finish it all off, however, as it is vegetarian you do not have that heavy weight of meat in the bottom of your stomach for the rest of the day.
It is owned by Hare Krishna’s, they sing when preparing the food and also while cooking it which only seems to add to the flavour of the meal with all the love they put into their work. There is certainly an Indian flavour to the meal but the food is by no means spicy (as most Chileans do not like spicy food) but more enhanced by the cumin or coriander powders to name but a few.
Sundar is only open for lunch from Monday to Friday, if you follow them on Instagram for instance then they put up on a story what that days delicious meal will be!
It is one of our favourite places to go and get lunch when we are in the town of Pucon.
Pizza Cala
If you want to eat the best pizza in town then Pizza Cala is the place to go. However, you will also pay for the privilege of eating the best pizza as it is not cheap! Throughout the summer there is a great mix of Chilean, Argentine and Brasil tourists going there to eat and depending on what time you go there, you may have to wait to get a table. Pizza Cala is quite famous in this part of South America as they have a restaurant in San Martin de Los Andes, Argentina and there is also now a restaurant in Villarrica. The wood fired stove brings out authentic and great tasting pizzas, the non-alcoholic drinks are super tasty (though we would recommend asking for less sugar as Chileans have a very sweet tooth!) and the beers are from a local brewery.
Kayak School Arlberg - Chile
If you are lucky enough to be invited up to our house for dinner, then it will be a curry! I love not only eating Indian food but also cooking it. Be it Dal (lentils) and paneer (Indian soft cheese), Rogan Josh which is a lamb curry with infused spices and natural yoghurt to a Balti Chicken dish, I tend to cook more Indian style as that is where I learnt to cook from relatives and friends in India compared to a more European style of Indian cooking. I brought all my powdered spices over to Chile from India so that I can add various ones to make an authentic Indian curry.
It is the taste of India but cooked on the flanks of the Villarrica Volcano above the town of Pucon!
So I hope this helps you find the food that you are looking for, if you went somewhere else to eat and can highly recommend it, drop me a mail and we will go and check it out. If it makes the cut with freshly prepared, flavoursome food we will add it to the list!
