We are now proud to be able to provide Paddle UK White Water Leadership Qualifications and White Water Safety Courses here at Kayak School Arlberg.
With the weather conditions and changing environment making kayaking more problematic in the UK, the governing body for kayaking in the UK, Paddle UK, saw a great opportunity to partner with us to provide white water qualifications in Austria.
And why not?
Austria has the longest white water kayaking season in the Alps, our season starts in April and will go through until November plus guaranteed water levels for each course be it training or assessment make Austria and especially Base Arlberg the perfect place in Europe to run courses for British Canoeing.
With the use of informal learning, experience based learning and individualised programmes and choices are important to developing highly skilled leaders in a white water environment. With our vast experience of over 35 years leading expeditions, kayaking various styles of rivers plus our coaching and teaching experience there is an abundance of knowledge and experience that can help you become and solid leader or guide on white water.
We offer 3 Paddle UK core courses that are required to become a leader or advance whitewater leader: Training, Safety and Rescue and finally Assessment.

Advanced White Water Leader Training
The Advanced White Water Leader award is for kayakers who wish to lead groups of white water kayakers on class 3-4 (5) rivers throughout the world.
Our Advanced White Water Leader Training course is run over 2 days and will provide a solid foundation to help you in the process of leading kayakers on class 3-4 (5) safely and to help those in the group have an enjoyable trip based on their needs and aspirations.
Advanced White Water Safety Course
The Advanced White Water Safety course is designed to support paddlers on grade 3 and 4 white water rivers.
The Advanced Whitewater Safety course is a 2-day programme that consists of 12 modules and we have the possibility of running the course on the Upper Rosanna, Sanna, and various sections of the Inn such as the Imst Gorge or Schuls Gorge in Switzerland.
This is a course designed by white water kayakers for white water kayakers in an advanced river situation.
White Water Leader Training
Once you have completed your Training course plus the relevant safety courses, worked through your action plan and are now confident to go for assessment get in touch. We try and make the whole process of an assessment as stress free as possible!
White water Safety Course
The White Water Safety course is designed to support paddlers on grade 2 and 3 white water rivers.
The Whitewater Safety course is a 2-day programme that consists of 9 modules and we have the possibility of running the course on the Rosanna, Lech, and various sections of the River Inn here in Tyrol, Austria.
This is a course designed by white water kayakers for white water kayakers in an moderate river situation.
